As any Irish person knows , if you don't have some kind of potato for dinner . Whether it 's boiled in their skins, smashed or home made chips (fries) then you hadn't had your dinner ...LOL... other names we call potatoes over here are spuds, tatties(that's a scotch word)and purities .. I use here in Ireland Kerr pinks or Roasters ,but I believe that Yukon Gold is a great potato in the States.. This is especially for my friend Rose Mary , I hope you like and enjoy ... :)

Ingredients For smashed potatoes ...irish style.

  • 8-9
    meduim potatoes .
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1/3 c
    fresh cream (heated)
  • to season salt and white ground pepper

How To Make smashed potatoes ...irish style.

    I used Roasters potatoes.
  • 2
    Peel, quarter and wash the potatoes, under a cold tap.

    Fill your double boiler with boiled water ,from your electric kettle . And place the potatoes in the steamer pot that has holes on the bottom. And steam for 25 minutes .

    cook the potatoes until their nice and soft , they should appear nice and dry and easily be able to put a knife through them.

    add to that your butter, salt ,pepper and heat the fresh cream in your microwave for 20 seconds you don't want to add cold cream to cool down the potatoes.

    Then with your potato smasher , smash the potatoes until there is no lumps and is nice and smooth.

    Then with an ice-cream scoop , to give that nice round neat shape , serve onto your dinner plate .
