I made this soup on the fly with existing ingredients from my kitchen. It turned out to be a hearty feel good soup that everyone liked. The beer and the sugar created a great sweet and tart recipe.

Ingredients For onion cabbage brew soup

1/2 csliced red onions

1/4 csliced red/yellow bell peppers

2 Tbspbutter

1/2head of green cabbage

4 Tbspchopped green kale
-
1 tspseasoned salt

1 tspblack pepper
-
2 stalkdiced celery
-
12 ozsam adams winter ale beer

2 cbeef broth
-
2 Mediumham hocks or 4 meaty neck bones

2 tspgarlic powder
-
1 cwater
-
4 tsplight brown sugar
How To Make onion cabbage brew soup

1In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine 1st 8 ingredients & cover.

2Simmer & stir frequently until all is softened.

3Meanwhile, place the remaining ingredients , except brown sugar, in a stock pot and cook on low.

4Combine saucepan ingredients into stock pot. Continue to cook on low, covered, for 1 hr.

5Add the brown sugar, stir and cook for another 15 minutes.

6Serve with cornbread or Texas Toast.
