Inspired by Amanda W. I just didn't have the option of a slow cooker meal. A few tweaks turn this into a delicious dinner in about an hour and my family loved it.

Ingredients For skillet sweet garlic chicken

  • 4 lg
    chicken breasts, boneless and skinless
  • 3 sm
    chicken thighs, skinless and boneless
  • 2 tsp
    garlic minced
  • 2 Tbsp
    onion powder
  • 2 Tbsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 tsp
    crushed red pepper flakes
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • FOR THE SAUCE
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 3/4 c
    apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 c
    7 up soda
  • 2 Tbsp
    soy sauce, low sodium
  • 2 tsp
    cornstarch
  • 2 tsp
    water
  • 1 bunch
    green onions
  • sesame seeds

How To Make skillet sweet garlic chicken

    Season breast and thighs with onion and garlic powder, salt and pepper set aside.

    In a mixing bowl combine the brown sugar, vinegar, soda, minced garlic. Stir until the brown sugar is dissolved.

    Heat a skillet with a quarter cup of olive oil and brown breast and thighs well. Remove and set aside in a warm oven.

    Pour sauce into the same skillet, leave the num nums and simmer until it coats the back of your spoon. Add cornstarch and water mixture.

    Once sauce is thickened return chicken pieces and simmer 10 minutes. Cut off the heat, let sit covered 10 more minutes.

    Plate chicken, pour the sauce over all and sprinkle with chopped onion, red pepper and sesame seeds. Serve hot.
