This is so good. I am not a huge fan of a lot of heat I prefer it to be sweet with a small touch of heat. So I modified this recipe to make it happen. Yummmm

Ingredients For general tao's chicken my way

  • sauce
  • 1/2 c
    cornstarch
  • 1/4 c
    water
  • 4 clove
    garlic minced
  • 1
    inch piece ginger minced
  • 1
    red chilies, minced
  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 c
    soy sauce
  • 1/4 c
    rice wine vinegar
  • 1/4 c
    shaoxing chinese wine or sherry
  • 1 c
    chicken broth
  • 1/4 c
    mirin
  • 2 Tbsp
    oyster sauce
  • meat
  • 3 lb
    chicken cut into chunks
  • 1/4 c
    soy sauce
  • 1 lg
    egg beaten
  • 1 c
    cornstarch
  • vegetables
  • 2 c
    broccoli florets blanched in salted water
  • 1 c
    green onions chopped
  • oil for deep frying

How To Make general tao's chicken my way

    Mix all ingredients for sauce together and refrigerate until ready to use. I use a large mason jar to mix sauce and then just shake it up good before using

    For the meat mix soy sauce cornstarch and egg together. Dredge the meat in the mixture coating well. Coating will be sticky. Cook in 350 degrees hot grease or deep fryer and drain on paper towels.

    Take sauce out of fridge and pour into large sauce pan. Cook until start to boil and thicken. Add chicken, broccoli, and green onions. cook until warmed through. Serve over rice.
