This is one of my husbands favorites. I used to make it for my son when he was little and now I just make it for my husband quite often during the winter months. We still love it.

Ingredients For hamburger pie

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 chopped garlic cloves
  • 1 16 oz. can cut green beans, drained
  • 1 101/2 oz can condensed tomato soup
  • instant potato flakes, made according to pkg. 4 serving amount
  • chopped fresh/dry parsley or paprika for garnish
  • dot with butter over potatoes

How To Make hamburger pie

  • 1
    In a skillet combine meat, onion, garlic if using, 1/2 tsp salt, and a dash of pepper
  • 2
    Brown meat lightly Drain excess fat from pan
  • 3
    Add drained green beans and tomato soup
  • 4
    Turn into a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish
  • 5
    Prepare instant mashed potatoes according to package directions.

    Prepare enough mashed potatoes for 4 servings
  • 7
    Season with salt and pepper
  • 8
    Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the meat mixture

    Dot with butter and sprinkle chopped parsley or sprinkle paprika over top

    Bake uncovered in a 350F for 25-30 minutes until top is lightly browned
