This hamburger gravy is an old favorite to many of us , who remember the ground beef over rice or mashed instant potatoes of the good ol' days...LOL Photo from Betty Crocker-not the recipe though.

Ingredients For school house hamburger gravy

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 sm
    onion, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 3 Tbsp
    all purpose flour
  • 2 c
    milk
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • serve over
    mashed potatoes, or rice or noodles or toast or biscuits

How To Make school house hamburger gravy

  • 1
    Place hamburger and onion in a large skillet. Crumble and cook over medium high heat; add Worcestershire sauce, cook until evenly browned. Remove from heat and sprinkle flour over cooked hamburger. Stir until evenly coated and all the fat is absorbed.

    Place skillet over medium heat; add half the milk and stir until gravy is thicken . Add remaining milk until desired consistency has been reached and gravy comes to a boil Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder.

    Note: Sometimes I like to add a can of mushroom soup to this or a can of peas undrained. Great over waffles too!
