I adapted this from a recipe for Hawaiian Beef that used the ground beef to make little meatballs. I wanted to make it faster so I just browned the beef. This dish was a great favourite with my family. As each child left home for their own place, they asked for this recipe to take with them. They have told me that this has been very popular at pot-lucks and for dinner with friends. The pineapple gives a brightness to this dish and the beans provide healthy fiber.

Ingredients For hawaiian beef

  • 1 lb
    lean ground beef
  • 1
    chopped onion
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    catsup
  • 1/4
    brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    vinegar
  • 2 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 1 can
    kidney beans, canned, drained
  • 1 can
    baked beans
  • 1 can
    pineapple chunks, drained

How To Make hawaiian beef

    Brown the ground beef and pour off excess fat. If you use very lean beef there may be no excess fat.

    Add chopped onion and cook until slightly transparent.
  • 3
    Add remaining ingredients and simmer about 1/2 hour or until thick.
