bacon cheeseburger gravy...bc-sos!

I got out some ground beef thinking - I'll figure out what to do with it later. Well later came around and I was torn between SOS and a patty melt ... Bacon Cheeseburger SOS was conceived! I served it on split biscuits, but it would be great on toast, hamburger buns (sloppy joe style), or ladled over potatoes. Not an everyday thing...just a nice comfort food fix - with a twist (: I think next time I may add a little diced jalapeno....

Ingredients For bacon cheeseburger gravy...bc-sos!

  • 3 slice
    bacon
  • 1/2 lb
    ground beef
  • 1/4 c
    onion, diced
  • 3 Tbsp
    ap flour
  • 2 c
    whole milk
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 c
cheese, shredded - cheddar or what ever you like
  • 1
    seeded and diced jalapeno (optional)

How To Make bacon cheeseburger gravy...bc-sos!

  • 1
Place bacon slices in a medium skillet then turn on heat to medium low.
  • 2
Cooking the bacon slow will render it and you will use it as the base of your gravy later on. About 3 to 4 minutes should do it.
  • 3
Flip and cook until bacon is golden but don't over cook it - burnt bacon will not make a tasty gravy. About another couple of minutes.
  • 4
Remove bacon and set aside. Add ground beef and dice onion(here is where you add diced jalapeno, if using). Break apart ground beef add a little salt and pepper. The bacon will add some salt on it's own so just a little will flavor the ground beef nicely.
  • 5
When the ground beef has browned and the onion is translucent, sprinkle flour over the top.
  • 6
Stir in the flour and cook 3 to 4 minutes. The mixture will look "dry" but that's correct.
  • 7
Add milk and turn up heat to medium. Add a little more salt and pepper. Cook until thickened and bubbly. Turn off heat and taste for seasoning. Add additional salt and pepper if needed. Crumble your bacon, and stir it in.
  • 8
Ladle it over your favorite bread or potatoes and bring on the shredded cheese! Enjoy!
