Ingredients For touchdown calzones

  • 1 pkg
    hot roll mix (16 oz)
  • 1 1/4 c
    hot water
  • 2 Tbsp
    canola oil
  • 1 1/4 lb
    spicy Italian sausage
  • 3/4 c
    pizza sauce, plus more for dipping
  • 4 c
    shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1
    mozzarella stick
  • 2 Tbsp
    melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp
    minced garlic
  • 1/4 c
    fresh grated Parmesan cheese

How To Make touchdown calzones

  • Brown sausage and set aside.

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Brown sausage. Drain and set aside.
  • Roll out dough into an oval shape.

    Mix hot roll mix with hot water and canola oil according to the package for pizza dough. Roll into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into an oval shape.
  • Place sausage on the dough with sauce and cheese.

    Place about 1/3 cup sausage mixture on each roll. Place about 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce and 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese on each.
  • Seal the dough, form into a football shape, and let dough rise.

    Bring up the dough edges and pinch them together to seal. Place on pan seam side up and flatten slightly to form a football shape. Let rise for about 25 minutes.
  • Place strips of mozzarella cheese on top for laces.

    Place mozzarella strips on top to form a lace design. Bake for 20 minutes.
  • Brush with melted butter and garlic and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese while baking.

    While still hot, brush with melted butter and minced garlic. Sprinkle grated Parmesan and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
