Ingredients For nona's pasta sauce with spinach meatballs

  • 1 can
    stewed tomatoes, italian-style
  • 1 can
    tomato paste
  • 2 can
    tomato sauce
  • 1 clove
    crushed garlic
  • 1 tsp
    italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp
    dried or fresh basil
  • 1 lb
    fresh baby spinach leaves
  • 1 lb
    lean ground beef
  • 1 pkg
    pasta of choice
  • 1/2 tsp
    sugar
  • 1 sm
    egg
  • salt and pepper to taste

How To Make nona's pasta sauce with spinach meatballs

  • 1
    cook spinach in two tablespoons olive oil and one tablespoon water till completely wilted and set aside
  • 2
    in large bowl beat egg and add ground beef, spinach and crushed garlic. shape meat mixture into meatballs. brown meatballs in 2 tablespoons cooking oil for about 10 minutes turning and browning evenly. drain meatballs on paper towels.

    in sauce pan heat tomato sauce, paste and stewed tomato's, add italian seasoning, sugar and basil.

    while pasta is boiling add meatballs to pasta sauce simmer till pasta is done. drain pasta and serve pasta with sauce and meatballs on top. garnish with grated parmesean cheese and side of garlic bread/salad
