When only homemade will do! The dough recipe makes one 12x18" baking sheet (with 1" lip). Mom always doubled this to make 2 pizzas with leftovers for Dad's lunch the next day. The sauce makes enough for 2 pizzas. I freeze the other half for up to 45 days either in a zippered freezer bag or a disposable plastic container. Use any pizza toppings you like. I like turkey pepperoni, black olives, mushrooms, artichokes, and sweet onions. (I got this pizza a little dark, but I also forgot to turn more lights on in my kitchen. The line down the middle was me being over-zealous to eat!)

Blue Ribbon Recipe

Need an easy homemade pizza recipe? This is it. It's simple and delicious. The crust is a simple yeast crust that doesn't require a rise and works like a charm. Once baked, it's thick and fluffy. The perfect base for the sauce and your favorite toppings. The sauce is thick and almost sweet with the right balance of spices. There is enough sauce for two pizzas, so we made a second to ensure leftovers. The crust does rise a bit and makes this a thick crust pizza which we enjoyed.

How To Make mom's homemade pizza

  • Yeast, water, and sugar in a bowl.
    1
Begin dough by combining yeast, water, and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  • Prepared sauce in a skillet.
    2
While yeast is setting, begin sauce. Mix all ingredients together and set aside.
  • Salt, oil, and egg added to yeast mixture.
    3
Add salt, oil, and beaten egg to yeast mixture.
  • Stirring flour into the yeast mixture.
    4
Slowly stir in flour, half cup at a time until mixture is doughy. Let sit for 5-10 minutes. (I take this opportunity to prep my toppings, drain cans, chop onions, etc.)
  • Dough pressed into a baking sheet.
    5
Coat pan in your preferred method. I drizzle olive oil on the pan and spread with a paper towel. Put flour on your hands and transfer the dough to your prepped pan. (Don't forget to remove your rings!) Press and work the dough from the center of the pan into the corners until nearly even.
  • Sauce spread over the dough.
    6
Spread half of sauce over the pizza.
  • Pizza toppings added.
    7
Top with your favorite pizza toppings!
  • Mozzarella cheese sprinkled on top.
    8
Cover with 1 pound shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • Pizza baking in the oven.
    9
Bake at 350 for 35 minutes or until crust is golden and cheese melted.
