How To Make lilian's cheesy lasagna

  • 1
In a large deep pot, add onions, garlic and ground beef until it starts to cook (when meat is brown) on medium to low heat. Get rid of the grease if there is any, (optional).
  • 2
Next add the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir into meat that is cooking, add the basil, parsley, salt, pepper, and sugar(the sugar is to remove the acid from tomatoes and sauce, old Italian trick), and stir. Cover pot and simmer in low heat for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  • 3
While the meat and sauce simmer, in a large bowl, beat 1 egg and add ricotta cheese and mix well with spoon. Once sauce is done, we can start putting this master- piece together!
  • 4
Preheat oven at 380° F. In a 9x13 baking pan (I use the aluminum one, you can use any one you want) spread some meat sauce on the bottom of pan. Place lasagna noodles to cover the entire bottom, spread ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles. Next, place sliced mozzarella cheese to cover all then to cover this layer followed by the shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • 5
Repeat this entire process of all ingredients until all ingredients are done. Just make sure the last two layers on top are the meat sauce and shredded cheese. Cover pan with aluminum foil.
  • 6
Cook for 50-60 minutes with foil then remove foil and cook for another 5 minutes. Let cool for 15 minutes and then serve. This goes great with some garlic bread.
