Ingredients For cheesy italian breakfast bake

  • 1 lb
    bulk italian sausage, mild or hot to your liking
  • 3/4 c
    green bell pepper, chopped
  • 3/4 c
    red bell pepper, chopped
  • 3/4 c
    onion, chopped
  • 3 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 4 c
    italian bread, cubed to 1" pieces
  • 2 c
    provolone cheese, shredded
  • 6 lg
    eggs
  • 2 c
    heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1/3 c
    asiago cheese, grated
  • 1/3 c
    basil, fresh, chopped

How To Make cheesy italian breakfast bake

    Spray 13 x 9" glass or ceramic baking dish with cooking spray. Cook sausage, bell peppers, onion & garlic in large nonstick skillet over medium high heat 6 - 8 minutes or until sausage is no longer pink in center & vegetables are slightly softened, stirring occasionally & crumbling sausage. Drain; discard drippings.

    Arrange 1/2 of the bread cubes in baking dish; layer with 1/2 of the sausage mixture & 1 C of the Provolone cheese. Repeat layers.

    Whisk eggs lightly in medium bowl. Whisk in milk, salt & pepper until well blended. Pour over bread mixture in baking dish, pressing down so all ingredients are moistened. Cover; refrigerate overnight.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Sprinkle with Asiago cheese. Bake, uncovered, 40 - 45 minutes or until golden brown & set. Remove from oven; let stand 10 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with basil.
