This is a basic N.E. recipe for fried fish that I got from my dad years ago. I serve it w/ homemade tartar sauce.

Ingredients For new england style simple fried fish

  • 1 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    each, salt & pepper
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1 lg
    egg
  • oil for frying, i use canola
  • 1-1/2 lb
    cod fillets, patted dry w/ paper towels.

How To Make new england style simple fried fish

    In lg bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, salt & pepper. Stir in milk and egg. Stir until smooth. Let stand 20 minutes.

    Heat a good amount of oil in lg deep skillet over med-high heat, until hot. Dredge fish fillets in batter, one piece at a time. Place fillets in oil.

    Fry, turning once, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
