One of my personal favorites, because it's so easy to make. And you can adjust the seasoning to your liking of spiciness! I usually serve this w/ my biscuit herbed onion bread. They go well together!

Ingredients For bayou gumbo

  • 1 stick
    butter.
  • 1 c
    chopped onion.
  • 1 c
    sliced celery
  • 1
    green bell pepper, chopped.
  • 1 tsp
    minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    chlili powder
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/8 tsp
    cajun seasoning
  • 2
    14.5 oz cans diced tomatoes w/ chiles, undrained
  • 1 c
    frozen okra, thawed
  • 1 c
    water
  • 1 lb
    lg shrimp, peeled, deveined.

How To Make bayou gumbo

  • 1
    In lg pot or dutch oven, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion, celery, green bell pepper and garlic. Cook, stirring, until tender. Stir in flour, chili powder, salt and cajun seasonings. Cook 1 min. Add tomatoes, okra and water. Simmer for 10 min. Add shrimp, cook 5 min, or until pink.
