I received this recipe in college from a male politican who was running for a student government position. I didn't know much about politics then, but I thought he had to be one smart cookie to give a recipe to female voters. He definitely got my vote. I've kept this recipe for many years, and it is featured in my book. My husband loves it, and it is one of my main dishes to share with friends who need a comforting hand. ENJOY!

Ingredients For stegall's heavenly chicken

4chicken breasts

1 cancream of mushroom soup
-
1 pkgdry onion soup mix
-
1 canmushrooms pieces and stems

1 1/2 cregular white rice
-
1 1/2 cwater
-
1 cmilk
-
salt and pepper to taste
How To Make stegall's heavenly chicken

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix soup and milk together, and reserve one half of the mixture.

2Stir the rice into 1/2 of the soup mixture and add mushrooms (including liquid, water, and 1/2 of the package of dry onion soup.

3Pour the rice mixture into a large baking pan which has been sprayed with Pam, and arrange the chicken breasts on the rice mixture.

4Pour the remaining soup mixture over the chicken and sprinkle with the remaining dry soup mix.

5Cover and bake one hour. Uncover and bake for about 15 minutes or until the chicken is lightly browned.
