Great Asian flavor with the fragrance of the orange and plum and the surprise of the licorice-flavor from the anise seed. You can serve with couscous or if you prefer service the chicken with rice.

Ingredients For slow cooker orange chicken with couscous

  • 3/4 c
    bottled plum sauce
  • 1/3 c
    orange juice
  • 1/4 c
    orange marmalade
  • 2 Tbsp
    quick-cooking tapioca
  • 1/4 tsp
    anise seeds, crushed
  • 2.5 - 2.75 lb
    chicken thighs, boneless/skinless (i prefer bone-in)
  • 2 1/4 c
    water
  • 1 Tbsp
    orange marmalade
  • 1 pkg
    10-oz. pkg. quick cooking couscous
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • orange peel strips and orange slices (optional)

How To Make slow cooker orange chicken with couscous

    For the sauce: In a small bowl combine plum sauce, orange juice, 1/4 cup marmalade, tapioca, and crushed anise seeds. Place chicken in a 31/2-4 qt. slow cooker. Pour sauce over chicken.

    Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 5-6 hours or high heat setting for 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Remove chicken from cooker and keep warm. Skim fat from the sauce.

    In a medium sauce pan bring water and one tablespoon marmalade to boil; remove from heat. Stir in couscous and salt. Cover and let stand 5 minutes. Fluff couscous with a fork just before serving. Serve chicken and sauce with couscous. If desired, garnish with orange peel strips and orange slices.
