slow cooker chicken and cherries

I created this based on some salad recipes I saw with cherries and it turned out great. It's definitely sweet but not as sweet as a pie. The barley soaks up a lot of the cherry juice, and it's PRETTY.

Ingredients For slow cooker chicken and cherries

  • 2 lg
    chicken breast halves, skinless and boneless
  • 2 oz
    butter
  • 1 can
    cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 c
    pearl barley, uncooked
  • 1
    chicken bouillon cube
  • 1 c
    water
  • SLOW COOKER CHICKEN AND CHERRIES

How To Make slow cooker chicken and cherries

    Brown the chicken breasts in the butter slowly so you can add the melted butter to the slow cooker
  • 2
    Place chicken and melted butter in slow cooker, add the 1 cup of water plus the 1/2 cup of pearl barley and 1 chicken bouillon cube
  • 3
    Cook the chicken and barley on HIGH for about an hour. Check that the water doesn't evaporate but don't use too much water. Then cook on SLOW for about another hour to fully cook the pearl barley
  • 4
    Add the can of cherry pie filling in this last hour and let it all simmer to get the cherry taste throughout the barley and chicken. Very easy and very tasty. Salt to taste, I didn't add any pepper.
