Ingredients For homemade chicken and dumplin's

  • 1 c
    water
  • 1 Tbsp
    shortening
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2-3 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 md
    chicken, whole
  • 3/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper
  • water, enough to boil and for broth
  • NOTE: IF MORE BROTH IS NEEDED ADD CANNED BROTH OR WATER AND A CHICKEN BOUILLON CUBE

How To Make homemade chicken and dumplin's

    Boil chicken with water, 3/4 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. black pepper until done. (about 1 hour) Then remove from broth and debone.

    In a mixing bowl, add salt, baking powder, shortening, 1 cup water and enough flour (about 2 cups) to make a dough. Note: May add a little yellow food coloring to mixture before adding flour, if desired.

    Roll out dough VERY THIN on floured surface and cut into strips; about 1" wide and 3" long. Parchment paper works great for rolling out dough.

    Add the strips of dough (dumplins) to the boiling chicken broth. Boil about 20 min. Stirring occasionally. Add chicken; season with additional salt and pepper to taste. Note: may add 1 chicken bouillon cube or 1/4 tsp of poultry seasoning, if desired.
