I got this recipe from my mother. This recipe was passed down in my dad's family from his step-grandmother. It's always a hit in my house! If more broth is needed, add canned broth or water and a chicken bouillon cube.

Ingredients For homemade chicken and dumplins

water, enough to boil and for broth

1 mdwhole chicken

1 3/4 tspsalt, divided

1/4 tspblack pepper

1 tspbaking powder
-
1 cwater

1 Tbspshortening

2 - 3 call-purpose flour
How To Make homemade chicken and dumplins

1Boil chicken with water, 3/4 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper until done; about 1 hour.

2Then remove from broth and debone.

3In a mixing bowl add 1 tsp salt, baking powder, shortening, and 1 cup water.

4Add enough flour (about 2 cups) to make a dough. If you want, you can add a little yellow food coloring to the mixture before adding flour.

5Roll out dough VERY THIN on a floured surface. Parchment paper or a silicone mat works great for rolling out dough.

6Cut into strips; about 1" wide and 3" long.

7Add the strips of dough (dumplings) to the boiling chicken broth.

8Boil about 20 minutes. Stirring occasionally.

9Add chicken.

10Season with additional salt and pepper to taste. Can also add 1 chicken bouillon cube or 1/4 tsp of poultry seasoning if desired.

11Stir and serve.
