When I crave comfort food this is what I make. My Grandma would make this for me her way on the stove and I found a similar recipe for a crock-pot version and tweaked it to taste just like Grandma used to make. The potato dumplings are her recipe and she only used measurements like a handfull or pinch and so forth. I hope you enjoy as much as I do.

Ingredients For creamy chicken in mushroom gravy and dumplings

  • 1 3 lb
    chicken or 3 chicken breasts
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 c
    dry white wine or chicken broth
  • 1 can
    cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can
    4-ounce can sliced mushrooms,drained
  • 1 c
    sour cream
  • 1/4 c
    flour
  • dumplings

How To Make creamy chicken in mushroom gravy and dumplings

    Place chicken in crock-pot and season with salt and pepper. Mix wine and soup and pour over chicken. Add mushrooms. Cook on low 7-9-hours or high 3-4 hours.

    Remove chicken and cut into bite size pieces and keep warm. Stir together 1 cup sour cream and 1/4 cup flour. Stir sour cream mixture into mushroom gravy. Add chicken and heat for 30 mins on low.

    Dumplings:8 to 10 slices of white bread. 1 egg, handful of flour, 1 white potato grated, 1/4 cup milk and 1/4 tsp salt. Drop by spoonfuls into boiling water for 15 to 20 mins. Drain with slotted spoon and serve gravy and chicken in soup bowl.
