We love this meal. Sometimes we'll serve this with just a green salad and a piece of garlic bread or any bread of your liking will do. You could do rice or pasta with this too. You can also use any type of chicken you'd like. I mainly use bone in, skin off chicken thighs. I get the thighs with the skin but when cooking it in the cp I take the skin off, most of the time. I guess it depends on my mood lol. I omit the celery seed in this one. I don't like celery seed. A lot of ppl make cooking complicated, it's not. If there's something in a recipe that you don't like but you like most everything else, just take that one ingredient out. Make it your own. I tell this to my daughter and nieces all the time. Ingredients For chicken cacciatore

  • 1 lg
    onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 lb
    cut up chicken
  • 2
    (6 oz) cans tomato paste
  • 4 ozs
    sliced mushrooms
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1~2
    cloves minced fresh garlic
  • 1 tsp
    oregano, dried
  • 1/2 tsp
    celery seed
  • 1
    bay leaf
  • 1/2 c
    water or chicken broth

How To Make chicken cacciatore

    Place onions in the bottom of your crock pot.

    Add chicken.

    Stir together remaining ingredients.

    Pour over chicken.

    Cook on low for 7~9 hours; high for 3~4 hours.
