Ingredients For braised chicken with shiitake mushrooms

  • 4
    chicken thighs
  • 8 oz
    shiitake mushrooms
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    sesame oil
  • 4 clove
    garlic minced
  • 1 tsp
    chinese 5 spice
  • 1 Tbsp
    rice wine
  • 2 Tbsp
    each soy sauce and oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp
    dark soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp
    grated ginger
  • 3
    scallions chopped
  • fresh cilantro chopped

How To Make braised chicken with shiitake mushrooms

    Mix the sugar, oil, 5 spice, rice wine, oyster sauce, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and cornstarch. Pour over chicken and let marinate at least 2 hours to overnight.

    Add some oil to the skillet. Add the ginger and garlic and saute for 1 minute. Add the chicken and brown on both sides.Remove the chicken to a plate. Add the mushrooms and cook until browned.

    Add the chicken back to the skillet with any juices accumulated. Add water just enough to cover the chicken. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer and simmer about 15 to 20 minutes until chicken is done and sauce thickened.

    Garnish with scallions and cilantro
