Ingredients For sloppy joe mac & cheese casserole

  • SLOPPY JOE
  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 1/4 c
    red onion diced
  • 3 clove
    garlic minced
  • 1 pkg
    sloppy joe mix
  • 1/1/2 c
    crushed tomatoes
  • 6 Tbsp
    tomato paste
  • MAC & CHEESE
  • 1 lb
    elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 1/4 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    each salt and ground mustard
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper
  • 3 c
    half and half
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 4 dash
    shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • TOPPING
  • 1 c
    shredded monteray jack cheese

How To Make sloppy joe mac & cheese casserole

    For the sloppy joe Place the ground beef, onion, and garlic in a saucepan. Cook breaking up the meat until it is no longer pink. Drain Stir in the packet of sloppy joe mix. Add the tomatoes and tomato paste. Cook until well incorporated. Set aside.

    Cook the macaroni in boiling salted water until al dente Drain and set aside.

    In a saucepan add the butter and let it melt. Stir in the flour and whisk into a roux. Mix in the salt, ground mustard and pepper.

    Slowly add the half and half and whisk over high heat until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese and Worcestershire sauce. Let the cheese melt and stir until smooth.

    Stir the cheese into the macaroni. Preheat oven 375 degrees. Spray 9x15 pan. Add 2/3 of the mac and cheese to the bottom of the pan.

    Spoon the sloppy joes over the mac and cheese. Place the remaining mac & cheese on top of the sloppy joes around the edges of the pan.

    Place in oven and bake for 25 minutes. Remove from oven and top with Monteray Jack cheese. Place back into oven for 5 more minutes until cheese is melted on topl

    Remove from oven and let sit for 10 minutes. Serve
