This new sausage casserole recipe I created is inspired my my honey margarine creation. It's filled with fusilli pasta, bacon, banana peppers, gouda, and Parmesan cheese.

Ingredients For honey margarine sausage casserole

  • HONEY MARGARINE
  • 2 1/2 stick
    margarine
  • 1 c
    honey
  • CASSEROLE
  • 8 oz
    gouda cheese, cut into 1/4-inch cubes
  • 1 c
    crumbled cooked bacon
  • 16 oz
    dry fusilli pasta
  • 1 lb
    smoked sausage, cut into 1/2-inches
  • 1 Tbsp
    creole seasoning
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 tsp
    ground cumin
  • 3
    banana peppers, sliced
  • 1 lg
    vidalia onion, peeled and chopped
  • 4
    cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 c
    heavy cream
  • 1 c
    shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 3/4 c
    Italian bread crumbs

How To Make honey margarine sausage casserole

    In a medium bowl, whisk the margarine and honey together until blended and smooth. Set aside.

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

    Coat a 11 x 7-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Add the cubed gouda cheese and crumbled bacon. Spread 2 Tbsp honey margarine evenly.

    Cook the fusilli pasta according to package directions; drain. Transfer to a large bowl. Mix 2 tablespoons honey margarine together until blended. Set aside.

    Melt 2 Tbsp honey margarine a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced smoked sausages, cook for 8 minutes until are browned.

    Reduce to low heat. Season with creole seasoning, garlic powder and ground cumin. Remove from heat.

    Melt 2 Tbsp honey margarine in a medium saucepan. Add the sliced banana peppers, chopped vidalia onion, chopped carrots and sliced mushrooms; saute for 5 minutes.

    Stir in the heavy cream and let it simmer for 6 minutes. Remove from heat.

    Add the cooked fusilli pasta and sausage mixture; mix well until combined.

    Pour into a prepared baking dish. Spread remaining honey margarine evenly and sprinkle with shredded Parmesan cheese and bread crumbs.

    Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
