cabbage roll casserole

If you like cabbage rolls but not all the work, then this recipe is worth a try. The amount of each ingredient is flexible. Less meat, more cabbage, less rice, some sugar etc. I'm trying to emulate my mother's cabbage roles :)

Ingredients For cabbage roll casserole

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 lb
    ground pork
  • 1/2
    cabbage head, chopped
  • 2 c
    cooked rice
  • 28 oz
    tin crushed tomatoes
  • 14 oz
    tin diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    ground black pepper
  • 3 clove
    minced garlic
  • 1 tsp
    oregano, dried
  • 1
    large chopped onion

How To Make cabbage roll casserole

    Brown meat, onions, garlic in large skillet.
  • 2
    Add cooked rice, crushed tomatoes, seasonings and stir.

    Place in large casserole dish or deep lasagna pan.

    Preheat oven to 350F.
  • 5
    Saute chopped cabbage in same large skillet until softened.

    Spread cabbage on top of casserole.
  • 7
    Pour tin of diced tomatoes over all.
  • 8
    Cover with foil and bake for 1.5 hours.
