Ingredients For the labor day burger

    bacon
  • 2 Tbsp
    bacon drippings
  • 2 lb
    ground beef
  • 2 c
    dry bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp
    red pepper flakes
  • 1
    pinch ground black pepper
  • 1 c
    shredded colby jack cheese
  • 4 slice
    colby jack cheese
  • cooking spray
  • 4 slice
    tomato, liced thin
  • 4
    hamburger buns split and toasted

How To Make the labor day burger

    Place bacon in a large skillet and cook over medium heat, turning occasionally until evenly browned but not crisp 8 minutes, drain on paper towel.

    Mix ground beef, bread crumbs, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and retained bacon drippings in a bowl mix until thoroughly combined, Divide meat mixture into 8 equal portions. Form each portion into large patties Making them as thin as possible.

    Sprinkle shredded Colby jack cheese onto 4 of the patties leaving an edge about 1/4 inch wide uncovered. Press second patty onto the cheese and press the edges of the patties together to create 4 stuffed burgers . Place stuffed burgers into the freezer to chill about 10 minutes.

    Preheat the outdoor grill for high heat

    Spray the grill grates with cooking spray and place burgers onto grill, turn to low heat place lid over grill and cook until burgers are lightly chard and cheese has melted about 10 minutes per side. Use a spray bottle of water to control flames, flames should just lightly contact the bottom of the burgers to create char after the first flip. Place cooked bacon on each burger

    Abut 2 minutes before burgers are done, put a slice of Colby jack cheese on each burger top with a tomato slice and transfer burgers to rest for 1 to 2 minutes. Serve burgers on toasted hamburger buns.
