This sandwich was popular back in our college days. We have made this for a number of years. I just had never written down measurements.

Ingredients For my version of the western sandwich

  • 1 lb
    ground chuck
  • salt (don't over salt, due to worcestershire)
  • ground black pepper
  • 1/3 md
    green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 sm
    yellow onion, chopped
  • 2-3 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce, for inside burgers
  • 1/3 c
    worcestershire sauce, for skillet
  • 3 Tbsp
    regular or light butter
  • bread for toasting, we use wheat or multigrain bread
  • regular or light mayonnaise
  • lettuce and tomato

How To Make my version of the western sandwich

  • 1
    Mix together ground chuck, salt, pepper, the 2-3 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce, chopped green pepper and chopped onion. Make into 4 patties.

    Melt butter in pan with the 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce, over medium heat. Cook on stove top, approximately 10 minutes per side.

    Make toast of your preferred bread. Spread on mayonnaise. Add lettuce & tomato, then burger, and top with second side of toast. Cut in half, diagonally, if desired.
