Fun fact: White button mushrooms were originally brown in color, until a natural mutation occurred in the 1920's in Pennsylvania. Farmers took advantage of that color variation to breed the white mushrooms. Ironically crimini and portabella mushrooms the brown color cousins of the white buttons have been increasing in popularity over the last few years.

Ingredients For magnificent mushroom swiss burgers!

  • 1 lb
    ground chuck
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp
    montreal steak seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    onion powder
  • 1 pkg
    (8 oz.) fresh, sliced mushrooms
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1 tsp
    minced garlic
  • 1 tsp
    dried parsley
  • 4 slice
    swiss cheese
  • 4
    hamburger buns
  • butter flavor cooking spray
  • mayonnaise (optional)

How To Make magnificent mushroom swiss burgers!

    In a medium mixing bowl, mix together ground beef, salt and pepper, steak seasoning, garlic powder and onion powder until well combined. Divide mixture into quarter pound patties.

    Melt butter over medium heat in a small skillet. Add mushrooms, garlic, and dried parsley. Saute until mushrooms are soft. Set aside; cover to hold in heat.

    Grill or fry hamburger patties over medium 8 minutes on each side for well done (which is how we like them) or until desired doneness. Top patties with 2 slices of swiss cheese, and cover grill or pan until cheese melts (about 1 minute)

    While cheese is melting, open buns, insides facing up on a cookie sheet and spray them with butter flavored cooking spray. Heat under broiler for about a minute or until bread is lightly toasted.

    To assemble sandwich, spread a tablespoon or so of mayonnaise on each side of the bun. Place a cheeseburger on bottom bun and top with sautee'd mushrooms and place top bun.
