I love this on a chilly night! It calls for consomme, but I find that too strong and rather salty, so I use broth. You can use whichever you prefer.

Ingredients For wine and beef casserole

  • 1 lb
    stew beef
  • 1/2 c
    burgundy or any dry red wine
  • 1 can
    consomme or beef broth
  • 3/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 Tbsp
    pepper
  • 1/4 c
    good quality bread crumbs
  • 1/4 c
    flour, sifted
  • 1
    medium onion, sliced

How To Make wine and beef casserole

  • 1
    combine beef, wine, broth, s&p and onion. Mix flour with breadcrumbs and stir into the meat mixture.

    Cover and bake at 300 degrees for (approx) 3 hours
