My brother in law once served this at a gathering a long time ago.It was the first time I had ever had Meat Pie.We all enjoyed it.It's something a little different.I've since seen other recipes for meat pie,but so far have stuck to this one.I suppose you can tinker with the recipe and add a few things.I've seen it with a few peas or small pieces of carrot,more or less spices,onion or potato.. but do try this way and see what you think!It's not supposed to be a "beef stew" pie-it's a meat pie,thus the name.

Ingredients For tom's french meat pie

  • 1 lb
    ground pork
  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 3 sm
    potatoes
  • 1 sm
    onion,chopped
  • 1/4 tsp
    each of ground cinnamon,nutmeg and clove
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt (or more to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground black pepper
  • 1
    double pie crust(top and bottom crust) for 8in pie plate

How To Make tom's french meat pie

    The prep time indicated above does not include making a pie crust,so piece that in,unless you are using a store bought crust. Cook the potatoes.Drain water off and mash them,adding a little milk,and butter.Set them aside.

    Brown the onion and mix in with the 2 meat'a till all are browned and cooked thru.Drain fat.Add the spices,salt,pepper and potaotes.Mix together and put into an unbaked pie crust.Cover with a top crust.

    Make a small slit on top of the crust so pie can breathe while baking. Bake at 350 for an hour until crust is browned. Let pie set about 5 min's and then serve.
