Ingredients For texas hunter's stew

  • 3 lb
    beef or venison stew meat
  • 1/2 lb
    bacon, chopped
  • 6 md
    potatoes, cut into large pieces
  • 2 lg
    onions, cut into large pieces
  • 4 lg
    carrots, peeled and cut into large pieces
  • 1 can
    16-oz whole kernal corn, drained
  • 2 can
    16-oz stewed tomatoes, cut up
  • 1 can
    16-oz hominy, drained
  • 1 lb
    okra, sliced, frozen or fresh
  • salt, pepper, and chili powder

How To Make texas hunter's stew

    Fry bacon in a large pan until crisp, remove bacon from pan, drain on paper towels. Set aside. Put stew meat in same pan and cook covered until tender, over low heat.

    When meat is tender, add potatoes, carrots and onions, salt, pepper and chili powder to taste(go easy on the seasonings they can be adjusted when stew is just about done) simmer until vegetables are just about tender now add the corn, tomatoes, hominy, okra and reserved bacon. Stir to mix and Simmer for one more hour.
