Don't let the long ingredient list scare you off. This is a super meaty chili that satisfies even the heartiest of football fans watching the Sunday game. A great recipe to prepare the day before, then put in the Crock Pot to warm up on game day.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

This chili is so hearty, it's like three meals in one! It's slightly sweet, but the jalapenos balance out the flavors. While the ingredient list is long, most of the ingredients are spices that add flavor to the ground beef chili. Topped with shredded cheese and a dollop of sour cream, a bowl will fill up any hungry crowd.

How To Make sweet and spicy chili

Test Kitchen Tips
If you find the veggie mixture needs more liquid once simmering, add a can of tomato sauce for liquid and flavor. If you'd like a more traditional-flavored chili, add more cumin and chili powder.
  • Saute onion, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, and garlic.
    1
In a large pot, start to saute the onion, bell peppers, jalapeno pepper, and garlic.
  • Add all ingredients but beef, beans, cheese, and sour cream.
    2
Once the veggies are soft, add the remaining ingredients except the beef, beans, sour cream, and cheddar cheese.
  • Brown the ground beef.
    3
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef.
  • Stir beans into the mixture.
    4
After the chili mixture has cooked for 1 1/2 hours, stir the beans into the mixture.
  • Add the ground beef.
    5
Then the cooked beef. Adjust seasonings to taste.
  • Top with shredded cheddar and sour cream.
    6
For best flavor development, let chili sit for several hours or refrigerate overnight. Heat thoroughly before serving. Top with shredded cheddar and sour cream.
