My mom used to make a box version and I couldn't find the box noodles she used, so I made up my own!

Ingredients For stovetop hamburger stroganoff

  • 1-1.5 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 md
    onion, diced
  • 1
    green bell pepper, diced
  • 8 oz
    mushrooms, fresh
  • 1-1.5 c
    sour cream
  • 1 bag
    medium egg noodles
  • 1 Tbsp
    garlic salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    seasoning salt
  • 2 Tbsp
    smoked paprika
  • 4 oz
    cream cheese
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter, cold

How To Make stovetop hamburger stroganoff

    Set a large pot on to make noodles according to package directions.Brown ground meat in large skillet with diced peppers & onions, adding salt & pepper to taste.Toss in sliced fresh mushrooms just before meat is done.Turn on low. Stir occasionally.Cover.

    In a small saucepan, melt butter, with all dry spices on medium heat. Add cream cheese & sour cream. Stir frequently. Turn to low as soon as mixture melts almost smooth.

    Drain noodles & rinse immediately with cold water to stop cooking. This also keeps the sauce from soaking into the noodles, coating them instead.

    Drain beef mixture( mostly), by this time noodles should be fully drained. Add beef mix & noodles. Stir in sour cream mixture Allow to rest approx. 5 minutes before serving. Nice mixed salad with it is great!
