Ingredients For shepherd's pie

  • 2 1/2 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 lb
    ground lamb
  • 4 lb
    potatoes, medium
  • 3 clove
    garlic
  • 3
    carrots
  • 1
    onion
  • 1 can
    peas
  • 1 can
    corn
  • 1/2 c
    ketchup
  • 12 oz
    tomato sauce
  • 1/8 c
    olive oil, extra virgin
  • 1/4 c
    worcestershire sauce

How To Make shepherd's pie

    Peel and cube potatoes and boil in a large pot about 20-25 minutes until soft

    Combine Ground beef and Ground Lamb (Use only ground beef if desired)

    Crush and mince garlic

    Shred carrots lengthwise

    Dice onions

    In a large frying pan add olive oil and garlic cook and dissolve about 7-10 minutes

    Add beef mixture and cook thoroughly until browned

    add ketchup, tomato sauce and worcestershire sauce

    add onions, continue cooking until onions are tender.

    add carrots and mix

    add corn and peas and combine turn heat to low and allow to simmer

    remove potatoes from heat, strain and blend with butter and milk to mashed potato consistency

    Spread a 1-2 inch layer along bottom of pan evenly

    Layer beef mixture on top of potato layer

    Cover beef mixture with second layer of potatoes

    use a spoon to create peaks on potato topping

    bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes.

    brush melted butter on top of potatoes and cook until golden brown

    remove from oven and allow to cool about 15 minutes

    Plate and enjoy (add sour cream or ketchup for topping)
