My mother-in-law originally gave me this recipe and I have made a couple of changes. This is miles above the ordinary chipped beef on toast.

Ingredients For new & improved sos

  • 2 pkg
    chopped, smoked, pressed beef
  • 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 c
    milk or half n half
  • 6 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • dash
    black pepper
  • 1 md
    green bell pepper
  • 1 can
    (15 oz. cream-style sweet corn
  • 4-6 oz
    cheddar or american cheese
  • 4-6 slice
    bread for toast

How To Make new & improved sos

  • 1
    Chop the bell pepper into small pieces and saute in a large skillet with 4 Tbsp. butter.

    Cut the chipped beef into small, bite-size pieces and add to peppers. Cook until hot and the peppers are translucent, stirring to break up pieces of beef.

    Stir in the flour until a thick paste forms and add remaining 2 Tbsp. of butter. Gradually stir in milk or half n half.

    When mixture begins to bubble, add the creamed corn and the cheese. Mix well and simmer about 5 minutes over low heat.

    Season with salt and pepper. Serve hot over toast.
