nc sloppy joes, my way

In NC this summer, I found this recipe in a magazine, and since I love Sloppy Joes of basically all types, kept this. It is, however, adjusted to my tastes. :)

Ingredients For nc sloppy joes, my way

  • 2 lb
    ground chuck
  • 1 md
    onion, chopped (use a sweet one) i use 2 large vidallia onions
  • 1 md
    green pepper, chopped (i prefer orange, yellow or red pepper in this)
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder (i use a spoon of minced garlic from the fridge!)
  • 1/2 c
    ketchup
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 1 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp
    tomato paste
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    black pepper
  • 2 tsp
    chili powder
  • hot sauce to taste (i omit)

How To Make nc sloppy joes, my way

  • 1
    Cook onion, ground beef and pepper, over med-high heat, stirring to break up, until beef is cooked through. Drain well then return to pan.

    Reduce heat to med. Stir in all but hot sauce. Reduce heat and simmer 30 min. Add hot sauce to taste and serve.
