Not bad for the waistline. Sort of spicy to the pallet. If you don't like black beans,substitute with dark red kidney beans.

Ingredients For lynda's southwestern burgers

  • 1 can
    (15oz) black beans,rinsed and drained
  • 1 sm
    red onion,finely chopped
  • 1/2 c
    frozen corn,thawed
  • 1/4 c
    dry bread crumbs
  • 1 can
    (chopped green chilies4oz)
  • 2 Tbsp
    worchestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    cumin
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • 1/2 lb
    ground beef
  • 1/2 lb
    extra lean ground turkey
  • 1/2 c
    fat free mayonnaise
  • 1/4 c
    salsa
  • 8 slice
    pepper jack cheese ...1/2oz each
  • 8
    whole wheat hamburg buns
  • OPTIONAL TOPPINGS
  • lettuce leaves,tomato slices,and red onion rings

How To Make lynda's southwestern burgers

  • 1
    In a large bowl,coarsely mash beans. Stir in next 8 ingredients,crumble turkey and beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into 8 patties. Refrigerate 1 hour.

    Coat grill rack with cooking spray before lighting grill. Grill burgers,covered,over medium heat for 5-7 minutes each side,or until a meat thermometer reads 165 and juices run clear.

    Top with cheese,cover,and grill 1-2 minutes or until cheese is melted. Serve on buns with toppings of your choice.
