karla's spaghetti sauce

I came up with this sauce years ago and its a family favorite , my girls always asks me to make it when they come for dinner. I use this sauce on alot of my recipes like my spanish green beans that are posted here also. This sauce freezes great. I don't measure my seasoning , so this is a ruff estimate. season to your liking .

Ingredients For karla's spaghetti sauce

  • 1 lb
    lean hamburger
  • 1 lb
    ground country pork sausage
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • salt & pepper
  • 1 lg
    onion , chopped
  • 1 md
    green pepper , chopped
  • 1 can
    sliced black olives , drained
  • 1 can
    mushroom pieces , drained ( i use the button)
  • 1 pkg
    spaghetti sauce mix
  • 29 oz. can
    tomato sauce
  • 1/4 can
    water ( to clean out the sauce )
  • 2 (6oz) can
    mushroom steak sauce (giorgio brand)
  • 1 can
    diced tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp
    crushed garlic (from a jar)
  • 1 tsp
    celery salt or flakes
  • 1 Tbsp
    parsley flakes
  • 1 tsp
    sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 1/3 c
    parmesan cheese
  • 2-3 sm
    hot yellow chili peppers , whole ; optional

How To Make karla's spaghetti sauce

  • 1
    Fry hamburger and sausage in a large skillet; sprinkle with garlic powder , salt and pepper.(do not drain off fat)

    Add onion , green peppers ; fry until onions and peppers are tender , Add mushrooms and black olives.

    Sprinkle spice packet over top of meat mixture and mix in.

    Add tomato sauce ,water , tomatoes , steak sauce , sugar and spices and the cheese ; mix well.

    Add whole yellow chili peppers if you want a little spicy heat. Optional.(do not break)

    Simmer for atleast 30 minutes to 1 hr. ( I like to simmer my sauce all day) Remove hot peppers when done.

    Pour spaghetti sauce over cooked pasta and enjoy.
