Fiance' is from Chicago and his favorite place to get a Beef Sandwich, is Portillo's. This is as close as I was able to get to it. Enjoy!!!

Ingredients For italian beef sandwiches

  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp
    oregano, dried
  • 1 tsp
    basil
  • 1 tsp
    onion salt
  • 1 tsp
    parsley flakes
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 pkg
    italian dressing mix
  • 3 c
    water
  • 5 lb
    rump roast, pre-sliced
  • 1 pkg
    mccormick au juse mix

How To Make italian beef sandwiches

    In a medium saucepan over medium high heat, combine the water, salt, ground black pepper, oregano, basil, onion salt, parsley, garlic powder, Au Juse and salad dressing mix. Stir well and bring just to a boil.

    Place roast in a slow cooker and pour mixture over the roast. Cover and cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours OR high setting for 4 to 6 hours.

    Serve on Italian Rolls, with hot peppers and provolone cheese.
