Including my late hubby, we usually had several strapping lads at our table who loved to eat (seriously, they were like locusts, and I had the grocery bills to prove it). It's a large loaf and occasionally we even had leftovers! It's pretty basic, but feel free to spice it up according to your family's taste.

Meatloaf is an easy dinner and this one is indeed hearty. We weren't sure what type of sausage to use so we went with a mild breakfast sausage. You could add a hot or Italian sausage for even more flavor. What makes this meatloaf special is the glaze. It's not too sweet and has a wonderful kick of spice.

Ingredients For hearty meatloaf
- MEAT LOAF

2 lbground beef
-
2 lbsausage
-
1 1/2 cPanko bread crumbs (plain or flavored)

3eggs (beaten)

3/4 cmilk
-
2onions
-
2 tspminced garlic (heaping)

1 Tbspdry mustard
- GLAZE
-
1 cbrown sugar, firmly packed

1 cketchup
-
3 tspchili powder
-
1/2 tspcayenne pepper

2 1/2 tspsalt
How To Make hearty meatloaf

1Combine meat, crumbs, spices, eggs, and milk in a large bowl. Mix by hand until well blended.

2Turn out into a large Pyrex baking dish and form into a loaf.

3Combine glaze ingredients in a small bowl and mix until well blended. Add extra seasonings as desired.

4Pour over meatloaf.

5Bake at 375 for about 60 minutes. (Should temp at 140 on meat thermometer) Remove from oven and let rest 5 minutes. Slice and serve.
