This recipe came with a skillet I purchased many years ago. It became a family favorite, even with my picky eater. Its very easy and quick to make. Served with a salad and it's a very satisfying meal. Great the next day too.

Ingredients For ground beef hash

  • 1/4 c
    butter or margarine
  • 4 lg
    onions, coarsely chopped
  • 2 lg
    green peppers, thinly sliced
  • 2 lb
    ground beef
  • 2 tsp
    chili powder
  • 2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 4 (14 oz) can
    whole tomatoes
  • 1 c
    water
  • 1 c
    uncooked rice
  • shredded cheddar

How To Make ground beef hash

  • 1
    Preheat skillet to 350. Melt butter or margarine. Add onions and green peppers to skillet and saute until soft. Transfer to plate.

    Add meat to skillet and cook until meat is browned, stirring occasionally to break up large pieces. Drain off fat.

    Return onions and peppers to skillet and stir in chili powder, salt and pepper. Then add tomatoes, water and rice. Stir to mix. Reduce temperature and simmer covered, for 35-40 minutes or until rice is tender. Stir occasionally.

    Serve hot with shredded cheddar cheese if desired.
