The smell of steak seasoning reminded me of the smell of porketta, which is my favorite choice for meat. I decided to try to use the seasoning on a roast. I wanted to be hands-free all day so I chose the Crock Pot to do the cooking. Wow, my house smelled amazing all day and the taste was to die for. It fell apart in my mouth and had this unique delicious wonderful flavor. I used the leftovers to make soup the following day and, Lord, that was one amazing beef soup. Give it a try and tell me what ya think.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

Pot roast is one of our favorite down-home recipes and this easy version is a real keeper. Full of flavor, it's savory and a little peppery. Once the roast simmers in the slow cooker, it's tender perfection. This pot roast is so easy to make, it's a dinner recipe you don't have to babysit. Thicken the wonderful broth to make gravy.

Test Kitchen Tips
General Cooking Times: Low 8-10 hours; High 5-7 hours. Ours cooked for 8 hours and was super tender.
  • Chuck roast in a slow cooker.
    1
Place chuck roast in Crock Pot.
  • Montreal steak seasoning covering the chuck roast.
    2
Season well with Montreal steak seasoning.
  • Garlic sprinkled over the chuck roast.
    3
Now season well with garlic powder. Flip over and do the other side the same way.
  • Enough water to cover the roast added.
    4
Pour just enough water around the roast to just reach the top but not cover it. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on low.
  • Cooked pot roast in the slow cooker.
    5
The roast is done when it falls apart when you try to lift it with a fork. Serve it with your favorite sides and enjoy (be sure to save leftovers for tomorrow's soup).

Note: Do not add additional salt to this. There are plenty of seasonings in the Montreal steak seasoning.
