family dirty rice

Our family loves this! Made for about 30 years. You can change the soups to what you prefer. You can change the rice to noodles. I like the cheese soup and cream of mushroom when using noodles. Use your imagination! I do!

Ingredients For family dirty rice

  • 1 1/2 lb
    ground round or chuck
  • 1 md
    chopped onion
  • 1 md
    chopped bell pepper
  • 1 sm
    jar of pimento
  • 1 c
    uncooked rice or noodles
  • 1 can
    cream of onion soup
  • 1 can
    cream of chicken soup or cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 can
    water, rinse soup cans and use to add in mixture
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1 tsp
    tobasco sauce or louisiana hot sauce
  • 1 sm
    chopped mushrooms
  • extra water if needed

How To Make family dirty rice

  • 1
    Brown meat, add peppers and onions. Cook until pepper is done. Drain if there is grease left in pan. Add hot sauce, mushrooms, seasonings, pimento, soups and water. Heat until bubbly. Then add uncooked rice or noodles. Cook until rice or noodles are done. Make sure mixtures does not stick to bottom. Add extra water if needed to finish cooking rice or noodles.

    I use a big Dutch oven style pan since this makes a good bit and I don't want it to overflow. The leftovers are even better!
