This was so easy and the meat was very tender! I got it from my Fix-it and Forget-it cookbook. I have not had many versions of goulash to compare it to-but this one is tasty. I know the authentic type does not contains tomatoes, but this may be more kid-friendly. If you would like it less sweet, use tomato sauce in place of the ketchup. My teen liked it the way it was.

Ingredients For crockpot hungarian goulash

  • 2 lb
    beef chuck, cubed (or use stew beef)
  • 1
    onions, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/2 c
    ketchup
  • **or use tomato sauce for less sweetness
  • 2 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 2 tsp
    paprika, sweet mild
  • 1/2 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 1 c
    cold water
  • 2 Tbsp
    dry onion soup mix
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 1/4 c
    flour

How To Make crockpot hungarian goulash

    Toss the beef with the onion soup to coat, brown the beef in a tad of oil. Place in slow cooker with onion.

    Combine all the remaining ingredients except the flour and 1/2 cup water. Pour over meat.

    Cover and cook on high for 4 hours; or low 8 hours.

    Dissolve flour in the 1/2 cup water. Stir into meat mixture. Cook on high until thickened; about 10 minutes. Serve over noodles.
