Oh my goodness, I just found this recipe. I had forgotten all about it. Ths recipe goes back in my family 60+ years ago. A family favorite at the time. It is very easy to make. Was my favorite to make as a teenager. I loved to cook for my family. My mom worked so I helped out after school. Making this for supper tonight.

Ingredients For cabbage patch stew

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 2
    onions, yellow, medium, slced
  • 1 1/2 c
    cabbage, shredded
  • 1/2 c
    celery, sliced
  • 1 lb
    can red or kidney beans, undrained
  • 1
    8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 1 can
    tomatoes, diced or stewed [16 oz]
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 2-3 c
    hot mashed potatoes

How To Make cabbage patch stew

    1. Brown the ground beef in a 2 qt pot,

    2 Add the onions, celery and cabbage; cook until vegtables are yellowed.

    3. Add about 2 cups of water to cover.

    4. Except for the potatoes, add the rest of the items to the pot.

    5. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.

    6. Serve in bowls, topped with hot mashed potatoes.
