My kids didn't like tomato based stews. I ran across this recipe from an old A-1 recipe booklet that I modified. Even my picky husband liked this one.

Ingredients For beef stew

1-1/2 lbbeef stew meat

2 Tbspvegetable oil

3bouillon cubes, dissolved in 3 cups boiling water

3 Tbspa-1 steak sauce
-
1-1/2 Tbspworcestershire sauce

1/2 tspthyme, dried
-
1/2 tsppepper
-
1 tspsalt
-
1bay leaf
-
4carrots cut in 1 inch slices

4potatoes, cut in 1 inch chunks

1/2onion, quartered
-
1 pkgfrozen peas
How To Make beef stew

1Place 3 cups water in saucepan and heat to boiling. Drop in bouillon cubes to melt.

2Meanwhile, Heat vegetable oil over medium heat and brown stew meat.

3Place carrots, potatoes and onion in bottom of crockpot.

4Add browned stew meat on top of vegetables.

5Check bouillon cubes to see if they have dissolved. If not crush until all is dissolved.

6Add A-1, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, pepper and salt. Pour over stew meat in crockpot; add bay leaf. Cook for 8-10 hours.
