Grilled Angel Food Cake with Mom's Super Simple Rhubarb Sauce

2 lbs. rhubarb, cut into 1/2" pieces

1/2 c. water, or more for a looser sauce
•
2/3 c. sugar (use less for a tart sauce, more for a sweeter sauce)
•
a drop or two of red food coloring, if desired, for a richer red color
