Sbiten is a Russian mulled honey drink. Served warm, it is similar to mulled cider. It's usually served without alcohol, but certainly is delicious with vodka added just before serving. We also found it delicious with bourbon or cognac. Found at a website for Winter Olympics 2014.

Ingredients For sbiten

  • 1/2 c
    honey
  • 12 oz
    seedless blackberry or currant jam
  • 3
    cinnamon sticks
  • 1 Tbsp
    whole allspice
  • 1 Tbsp
    whole cloves
  • 1 pinch
    salt
  • 7 c
    water

How To Make sbiten

  • 1
    Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  • 2
    Bring to a simmer and cover. Simmer for 30 minutes.

    Strain through a fine mesh sieve, then serve warm.
