THIS IS AN ANYTIME OR A HOLIDAY MUST. THE BEST BREAD PUDDING OUT THERE. I USED TO HIDE THE LOAVES OF FRESH BREAD FROM MY MOM SO SHE WOULD HAVE TO MAKE THIS.THE AROMA IT SPREADS THROUGH THE HOUSE WHILE BAKING IS PURE COMFORT.

Ingredients For old-fashioned banana bread pudding

  • BREAD PUDDING
  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 4 c
    cubed 1" stale french or sourdough bread
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2 c
    milk
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    sliced bananas 1/4" thick
  • VANILLA SAUCE
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 3/4 c
    milk
  • 1/4 c
    light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla

    PREHEAT OVEN TO 375. IN A 2 QT. CASSEROLE MELT 1/4 CUP OF BUTTER 4-6 MINUTES. STIR IN BREAD CUBES.

    IN A MEDIUM BOWL SLIGHTLY BEAT EGGS; STIR IN REMAINING PUDDING INGREDIENTS, EXCEPT BANANAS. STIR IN BANANAS.

    POUR OVER BREAD CUBES; STIR TO COAT. BAKE 40-50 MINUTES OR UNTIL A KNIFE COMES OUT CLEAN.

    MEANWHILE IN A 1QT. SAUCEPAN MELT 3 TBLS BUTTER OVER MEDIUM HEAT.

    STIR IN SUGAR AND CORNSTARCH; ADD IN REMAING INGREDIENTS EXCEPT VANILLA.
