This was one of my mother's often served dessert and was a favorite whenever she had to take something to a potluck. This is more a "how to" than a recipe as it is assembling ingredients that were usually on hand.

Ingredients For mom's easy trifle

1sponge or yellow layer cake

2 pkg(large) strawberry gelatin

1 ptstrawberries, fresh, halved

1 pkg(large) egg custard, the kind you have to cook

whipped topping, thawed

toasted almond, slivers
How To Make mom's easy trifle

1Place cake in deep glass dish (clear is nice). Mix gelatin per instructions and pour over cake.Place berries on top. Refrigerate and let set.

2Prepare custard per instructions, cool slightly and pour over cake/gelatin. Let this set.

3Top with whipped topping and toasted almonds.
